5+ Celebrity Couples Who Broke Up Shortly After Their Relationship Went Public

These couples sadly didn’t stand the test of time.

While dating is a normal part of growing up, it is seen as quite taboo in Korea when it comes to celebrities. Despite the original stigma, many actors and idols are getting into relationships that become public, either through Korean media outlets or their own announcements. Sadly, most of them don’t last for many reasons, and announcements tend to come out shortly after saying that they’ve broken up.

Here is a look at 5+ celebrity couples who broke up not long after their relationship was announced to the public.

1. Lee Jae Wook and aespa’s Karina

The most recent breakup was seen between actor Lee Jae Wook and aespa’s Karina. After meeting at a fashion event at the start of the year, Dispatch revealed in February that the two had formed a bond and were getting to know each other. Sadly, on April 2, it was announced that the two had split up due to reasons involving their schedules and also the backlash received from fans.

2. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Ahn Bo Hyun

Considering they had never had a public interaction, netizens were shocked when BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and actor Ahn Bo Hyun were revealed to be dating in August 2023. Aside from some pictures of the two stars separately, which were alleged to have been taken while dating, their relationship was very private. Sadly, due to busy schedules, it was announced that they had split up in October 2023.

3. Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol

When Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol’s relationship was exposed at the start of March, it was a very messy situation involving Hyeri and also a lot of social media posts. Yet, they seemed to be strong as photos of their date in Hawaii were posted, but the backlash continued. On March 30, only two weeks after the first announcement, it was confirmed that the two had split up.

4. BLACKPINK’s Jennie and EXO’s Kai

Back in January 2019, the world of K-Pop was turned upside down when Dispatch revealed that BLACKPINK’s Jennie and EXO’s Kai had been dating since October 2018. They quickly became a true power couple. Sadly, the relationship wasn’t meant to be as their split was announced only a few weeks after Dispatch’s reveal, with the companies claiming it was the wrong time.

5. Nam Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyung

Stars Nam Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyung were the true “K-Drama” treatment after they started dating in 2016 following the show Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. It seemed like their chemistry on screen was just as good when the cameras weren’t rolling, but sadly their breakup was announced in August 2017, only four months after Dispatch revealed the news.

6. Wonder Girls’ Yubin and Kwon Soon Woo

In May 2023, Wonder Girls’ member Yubin announced her relationship with tennis player Kwon Soon Woo. They got into controversy after fans demanded they split up due to Soon Woo’s tantrum during a game. Despite being public on social media, the couple split up in October of that same year.
