Here’s A Look At MONSTA X’s Current Members’ Line Evolutions From Debut Until Now

There have been a lot of changes over MONSTA X’s career.

MONSTA X debuted in May of 2015, which means they’ve had 5 years to learn each others’ strengths and weaknesses and determine how best to work together. Sadly, they now have 6 members instead of 7 after Wonho left the group, but the remaining members still have spent the last several years working hard and it’s interesting to see how their lines have developed. While the line distributions of their main songs has already been studied, the graphs below show how each individual member has had their lines change over time. Some have a lot of variation, while others show a trend of some kind!

1. I.M

I.M is one of the main rappers in MONSTA X, and like many rappers in K-Pop groups, his lines have varied a lot over time due to some songs being more rap-heavy than others. He’s had a decent amount of the total lines at about 14.1% of the total, and though he doesn’t show a clear upward or downward trend, it seems fair to keep him where he is in terms of lines.

2. Joohoney

Joohoney is the other main rapper of the group, though he’s had slightly more lines overall than I.M at about 15.8% of the total. Like I.M, he’s had a high level of variation in his lines through MONSTA X’s discography, and doesn’t show a clear trend in more or less lines over time (except for the decrease in lines he had shortly after their debut), but it’s worked well for him so far!

3. Minhyuk

Minhyuk has the second-least amount of lines in the group at about 8.5% of the total, which makes sense given that he’s the sub-vocalist and visual. Interestingly, even though he’s a vocalist, he’s had a huge variation in how many lines he gets in MONSTA X’s songs, though in recent times he does seem to be getting slightly more overall than he did in the past. Hopefully this continues so he gets more time to shine!

4. Kihyun

Kihyun is the main vocalist of MONSTA X, and it shows in his total line percentage at 28.5%, far more than any other member in the group (Joohoney is next at 16%). He does have an incredible voice, so it makes sense that he would have the most lines, but it would be nice to see other members get that much center time too! He does appear to have had a slight decrease in his lines lately, at least, so hopefully this is to allow more singing time for others that get less of the spotlight.

5. Hyungwon

Hyungwon has the least amount of lines of anyone in MONSTA X, at about 7.5% of the total. He’s the lead dancer, sub-vocalist, sub-rapper, visual, and center of the group, so while he perhaps shouldn’t be getting as many lines as the main vocalists, he deserves more time to sing! Fortunately, his line evolution does appear to be increasing in recent times, so hopefully that trend will continue.

6. Shownu

Shownu is a lead vocalist of MONSTA X, which is not quite as high as a position as a main vocalist, but it definitely means he should be getting plenty of lines. He’s in the middle of the group at about 15% of the total, so that amount makes sense for him. Since the “All In” era, his lines seem to be pretty stable overall, so as long as it stays that way, he should have plenty of time to show off his skills!
