These Iconic Kissing Scenes From K-Dramas Were Totally Unscripted

How to make single people cry 101.

When it comes to heart-fluttering romance, K-Dramas can outdo anyone and anything. The slow burn of the several episodes while you sit pining to see your OTP (One True Pairing) finally get together and share a kiss for the first time creates the most elite viewer experience ever!

Though most of the time it is the writers who reward the viewers with enticing kissing scenes, sometimes actors take matters into their own hands. Here are some iconic K-Drama kiss scenes that the actors actually improvised!

1. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

Fans of this show will vouch for the amazing chemistry of the lead pair any day. So, it isn’t particularly surprising to think that the two might have ad-libbed some couple-shots here and there. In episode 15 particularly, there is a scene where Kim Bok Joo (played by Lee Sung Kyung) is pushing Jung Jun Hyung (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) to go back to training for his upcoming competition. After a bit of bickering, Jun Hyung replies, “I will run if you give me a kiss,” and Bok Joo complies. In a behind-the-scenes video for this episode, it was revealed that the pair tried out many adlibs and, during the shot, settled for the kiss.

2. Nevertheless

The off-screen chemistry of the leads became a hot topic when this show was on air. While shooting a scene for episode 4, the director asked Song Kang to end the scene with a quick kiss on Han So Hee‘s cheek and the two discussed which angle would be better for that. However, when the cameras were rolling, they ended the scene with a sweet kiss on the lips! The two carried the mood of the scene so well that the kiss ended up being included in the final shot.

3. Business Proposal

This drama has set the romantic standards high for a lot of viewers and understandably so. Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Sejeong did a fantastic job at building their on-screen chemistry here. In episode 10, there is a sweet scene where Sejeong’s character Shin Ha Ri is trying to distract Kang Tae Moo (Hyo Seop’s character) from the rain. While Ha Ri is busy talking, Tae Moo watches her all endeared and eventually plants a kiss on her lips. In the behind the scene clip, you can see a somewhat flustered Sejeong announce “Like this, the kiss scene that wasn’t even in the script, became a success!”

4. Oh My Ghost

This drama had the first on-screen kiss of Park Bo Young! But what sweeped the ratings high for this show was the kissing scene in the final episode where the two leads meet each other after a long separation. In an interview, Bo Young’s co-star Jo Jung Suk explained that originally in the script, there was supposed to be only one kiss.

The script ended there but the director didn’t say ‘cut’ so [Park Bo Young] improvised, ‘Are you tired? Are you okay? But can I kiss you one more time?’ and more.

K-Dramas are probably the only way any of us will ever pay to be third-wheeling. But thanks to these hard-working actors, viewers get to experience some serious butterflies in their tummy. The intense feeling of being single that comes afterwards is just a colateral damage, right?
