On March 23, Jeong Dongwon was indicted without detention for violating the Road Traffic Act. Police were dispatched after receiving a report that “a motorcycle was driving on a cars-only road,” and the driver turned out to be the young trot singer.

It was also reported that Jeong Dongwon recently got his motorcycle license—two days before the incident.

This news came as a surprise to many, as Jeong has been in the limelight since he was young and has always been seen as a model student. Born in 2007, Jeong Dongwon debuted as a trot singer in 2019 at the age of 12. A year after his debut, he placed fifth in the trot audition program Mister Trot the season Lim Youngwoong won first place.

Jeong Dongwon’s agency has since addressed the issue and apologized on his behalf, stating that he is genuinely sorry and that it was an accident because he was still getting used to the rules of the road.

Jeong Dongwon violated traffic regulations by entering a motorway on the Dongbu Expressway at midnight on March 23. It was his first time driving the motorcycle and he did not recognize that the road was a motorway, and he is deeply reflecting on his actions. As Jeong Dongwon reflects, the agency will pay attention to prevent something like this from happening again.

The young singer also told the police he was following the navigation and accidentally entered the wrong road.

The police released Jeong Dongwon, considering that he is a minor, and they are reportedly planning to conduct an investigation with his guardian.
