2PM’s Taecyeon Provides A Realistic Update On The Status Of The Group
2PM‘s Taecyeon (also known as Ok Taec Yeon) revealed the status of the group in a recent interview.
Although Taecyeon left JYP Entertainment in 2018, he remained a member of 2PM, and the group has since even had a comeback with the seventh studio album MUST in 2021. It was their first comeback in nearly five years.
Currently, the members are busy with individual activities. For example, both Taecyeon and Junho (also known as Lee Jun Ho) are starring in romantic-comedy K-Dramas Heartbeat and King the Land, respectively.
So, in an interview with Eric Nam on DIVE Studios‘ Daebak Show w/ Eric Nam, Taecyeon promoted his new drama series and talked about everything acting-related. Knowing many Hottest would be watching, Eric curiously followed up the conversation to ask about 2PM.
You seemingly… you’re focusing mostly on your acting stuff. 2PM, where are you guys with doing more music together or promoting anything?
— Eric Nam
Taecyeon explained that 2PM is in preparations for special concerts, celebrating their 15 anniversary since they made their debut on September 4, 2008. Previously, Chansung shared that their Korean concert would occur in September and overseas in October.
We are actually preparing for our 15th-anniversary concert in Korea and Japan.
— Taecyeon
Still, Eric was curious if we would also get a 2PM comeback soon. So, he asked, “Are you guys relating new music as well or…?” Taecyeon explained that all the members are so busy with their own activities. So, concerning the concerts, it would be a one-off situation.
I don’t think we’ll be able to make music because everyone’s so busy with doing their work. So, it’s just like a one-time concert thing.
— Taecyeon
Eric followed up to ask one more music-related question. He asked, “Do you have like any more ambitions with music necessarily?” So, Taecyeon explained how K-Pop has changed so much since 2PM’s debut.
I mean, music-wise, I think it’s very different nowadays. It’s where we started off as 2PM, it was very… domestic, I would say. It was not as international as it is now, and how we approach music itself is very different from how we started.
— Taecyeon
Taecyeon emphasized he still loves music, though. Yet, 2PM is concerned that, at this time, they cannot produce music worthy of being released. They fear over-pressuring themselves, resulting in mediocre music that could tarnish the group’s name.
So, I mean we… I love doing music as well. I tend to write some stuff and release it on fan meetings and whatnot. But as for 2PM, I don’t think we’ll be able to like come up with something so sensational that we did before. It’s more like we want to keep the name going, but we don’t want to like overpressure ourselves into like you know, creating something mediocre and whatnot. So, I think we’re on a point where it’s like we just want the whole name to be protected.
— Taecyeon
While this isn’t exactly what we hoped to hear concerning 2PM, Taecyeon never said “never” to a comeback. So, here’s to patiently waiting…
