Popular Idol Catches “Chaebol” Accusations After Gifting A Car To A Staff Member
In her recent appearance on MBC FM4U’s Kim Shin Young’s Noon Song of Hope, MAMAMOO member Hwasa cleared up rumors of her being a chaebol.

On October 17, Hwasa appeared on the radio show as a guest, where host Kim Shing Young asked her about her “financial therapy” gifts for her staff members. Hwasa responded that she considered team dinners as her only opportunity to connect with her colleagues and create a team connection. Hence, she loved splurging on these meals.
Kim Shin Young then brought up a specific extravagant gift given to one of her staff members by Hwasa. “Didn’t you gift your stylist a car?” she asked, adding how people were calling her a chaebol for that. Hwasa quickly denied it, saying, “I’m not a chaebol. It’s not like I’m overflowing with money.”
The idol then explained that this stylist had worked with her for over ten years. So, when her car had become old, she decided to gift her a new one.
I don’t think a gift should be something you calculate or weigh out. I gave the car with a grateful heart, thinking, ‘Even if I buy this, it won’t be a burden for me.’
— Hwasa
“The car she was driving broke down, and she hadn’t been able to replace it,” the idol further explained, adding, “I wanted to give her one, so I did.”

Notably, Hwasa was not the one to reveal this generosity to the public. Back in July, during an episode of KBS2′s Crazy Rich Koreans, Hwasa was shown while on her North American tour. While traveling with her team, the idol had handed over her credit card at a rest stop so that the staff members could use it freely. It was then that the stylist who received the car shared, “She’s always so generous that it’s hard to even talk about just one thing. She gave me a car as a birthday gift.”
This story of the idol’s extraordinary generosity has moved the radio show’s audience, earning Hwasa high praise from them.
