On January 12, KST, the group’s official social media accounts announced the change in a brief post that said, “We are pleased to announce that XG has evolved its group name.” While originally, “XG” stood for “Xtraordinary Girls,” the group announced that the new abbreviation would be “Xtraordinary Genes.”

This name change was likely done to honor the gender identity of Cocona, the group’s youngest, who recently revealed that they identified as AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) transmasculine non-binary.

Fans have abundantly expressed their gratitude toward this sensitive and supportive handling of Cocona’s gender identity by the group and their management.
