Popular K-Drama Star Accused Of DUI

Investigations open.

It was belatedly confirmed that actor Song Young Kyu has been transferred to the prosecution after being investigated by the police on suspicion of drunk driving. According to reports compiled by News1 on the 25th, the Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province referred Song to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office without detention at the end of last month on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

Song is accused of driving approximately 5 kilometers in a heavily intoxicated state around 11 p.m. on the night of June 19, 2025, from Giheung District to Cheoin District in Yongin City. After receiving a report from a witness claiming, “It looks like someone is driving under the influence,” the police identified Song’s vehicle and apprehended him.

When officers conducted a breathalyzer test, Song’s blood alcohol content exceeded 0.08%, the level at which a driver’s license is revoked. According to the investigation, Song had been drinking with acquaintances in the Giheung area before deciding to drive himself home. A police official stated that they were unable to disclose specific details of the investigation.

Song Young Kyu made his debut in 1994 through the children’s musical “Wizard Mureul”, and has since built a reputation as a scene-stealer in numerous dramas and films. Currently, he is playing Pastor Yoon Se Hoon in ENA’s Monday-Tuesday drama Eye Shopping, and is also set to appear as Kim Min Joong, the rugby team coach of Daesang High School, in SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama Try: We Become Miracles, which premieres on July 25, coincidentally the news of his DUI broke.
