However, controversy arose when fans later came across a clip showing Choi throwing a fastball toward a young fan who participated in the ceremonial batting. Some baseball fans heavily criticized Choi, pointing out that the ball narrowly missed the child’s head, avoiding a major mishap. Many also found it disagreeable that the actor didn’t even apologize to the young fan.

Amid growing criticism, Choi issued a public apology on October 10, KST, through a fan communication platform. He wrote, “I was really nervous yesterday, and the ball slipped. If I can get in contact with the child and their parents, I’ll apologize.” He added that he got too excited because it had been a while since he watched a game in person.

Since a young child was standing there, I should have thrown the ball slowly and from a closer distance, but I failed to think of that. I feel truly sorry.

Choi also urged baseball fans not to criticize the team he supports for his actions.
