Actress Cha Joo Young recently appeared on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block and cleared up rumors about growing up in a wealthy family.

The rumors aren’t true. But it is true that my father works in finance.

She also shared that initially, she thought she would naturally work in finance.
Since all my family and relatives work in finance, I thought I would too because I grew up seeing that.

Studying abroad was also a sudden decision made by her parents.
I was participating in dance when I suddenly got a notice from my parents and was sent abroad a week later. I thought I was going to the States, but they sent me to Malaysia. I asked why, and in the blink of an eye, I was in Malaysia. They told me that because I was going to the U.S. or the U.K. for college anyway, they thought it would be better to experience the Southeast Asian market.

She confessed that she grew up with a strict father and felt that acting was a path that she would not be able to take.
“That’s why I thought acting was a path that I could not take. I grew up in an environment where I couldn’t even imagine what kind of world it was.
It was natural to do what my father told me to do, and while thinking about going into finance, I thought about what kind of job I could do to leave my mark before it was too late. I could always study later, so I wanted to try something I was drawn to.”

However, her father’s opposition to her acting lasted for a long time.
When I appeared in ‘Cheese in the Trap,’ my father said he would pay the penalty fee to make me quit. I told him, ‘I think I can do it and I want to spend the rest of my twenties on a new challenge. If it doesn’t work out after I’m 30, I’ll quit.’ I was that desperate.

With the countless “born rich” rumors and comments about “having a place to go back to,” she was even more determined to make a name for herself so that she wouldn’t have to explain herself anymore.
