Actress Kang Soo Yeon Has Passed Away Following Cardiac Arrest
Actress Kang Soo Yeon has passed away after remaining unconscious for three days.
In official media releases, it has been confirmed that Kang Soo Yeon passed away around 3pm KST on May 7. She had been receiving treatment while remaining unconscious after being discovered unresponsive at her home in Apgujeong, Seoul due to cardiac arrest. She was 55.
Her colleagues in the film industry, led by former chairman of the Busan International Film Festival Kim Dong Ho, have set up her funeral at the Samsung Medical Center.
Kang Soo Yeon was one of Korea’s most revered actresses, having been the first Korean actor to have won an award at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival in 1987 for her role in The Surrogate Woman. The award was the first time a Korean actor had received an award from a major international film festival.
Most recently, the actress is said to have made her return to films after ten years in the upcoming sci-fi film Jung_E.
