aespa Fail To Impress As New Single Hit With Scathing Criticism
aespa are gearing up for their second studio album, LEMONADE (dropping May 29), and promotions are already in full swing.

As part of it, the group dropped a pre-release single on May 11. “WDA (Whole Different Animal)” notably features G-Dragon and leans into hip-hop territory with a heavy synth bass and a hook built to overwhelm.
On paper, it sounds like something K-Pop fans would love, but the reactions online have been completely different.

While fans of the group seem to like the song, netizens have not been so kind.

The song is being widely criticized as bland and underwhelming, with many drawing unfavorable comparisons to recent tracks “Dirty Work” and “Rich Man” — previous back-to-back releases that already left a sour taste.
The way this group’s fans drag other girl groups’ songs, you’d think their faves are out here releasing groundbreaking music meanwhile this is the kind of bland and mid music they gag over. https://t.co/PRfkekfhze

i did not like this. you know how mid a song gotta be for a g TRASH verse to be a highlight? this is like a boring version of 'dirty work' & that song was beyond average. i'm highly disappointed https://t.co/5OBpwCqxlB

For a group that delivered mega-hits with “Supernova” and “Whiplash,” the recent run of music feels like a sharp drop in quality to many listeners.
how do they go from releasing hits like supernova and whiplash to dirty work, rich man and now this..? aespa downfall needs to be studied 😭 https://t.co/QfolB9AOKi

Whether this is a creative risk that hasn’t landed or a sign of something deeper is up for debate. But with the full album still weeks away, aespa have some ground to make up.
