Netizens are concerned about the group’s image.

aespa‘s leader Karina recently found herself in the midst of a controversy after posting a picture of herself in a black and red jacket on her personal Instagram.

While on the surface, it was a harmless photo, many interpreted it from a political angle. Since her jacket had the color red and a clearly visible number “2” written on it, both associated with the People’s Power Party, many felt that it showed her implicit support for South Korea’s conservative presidential candidate Kim Moon Soo.

Though Karina quickly deleted the photo from her Instagram as these speculations started rolling in, the group has further gotten dragged into a political spectacle. Shortly after Karina made the post, Baek Ji Won, the spokesperson of the People’s Power Party, gave a shoutout to aespa through Instagram story with a photo of all four members and the song “Supernova” playing in the background.
