Top K-Drama Actor Admits To Feeling Lonely After Divorce

Ahn Jae Hyun, who divorced Ku Hye Sun in 2020, opens up about his feelings of loneliness. The broadcast of Ganeunjung Oneunjung Lee Minjung airing July 4, 2024, featured the star at his most vulnerable point.
Ahn Jae Hyun divulged that he began feeling lonely on weekends after he could not find anyone to hang out with. He also pointed out that all his friends had families to spend time with, and that he was beginning to see his alone time as being lonely.
“At some point, all my friends got married and became parents. It made me feel guilty about making spontaneous plans. Even if I’m free on weekends after a busy workweek, my friends have families now, so it feels awkward to meet up. These days, I think I’m starting to feel the loneliness of being alone.”
Ahn Jae Hyun and Ku Hye Sun first met while filming the 2015 K-drama Blood. Their on-screen chemistry soon turned into a real-life romance, and by April of that year, they were dating. Just under a year later, in March 2016, the couple publicly confirmed their relationship, and in May 2016, they registered their marriage. By late 2017, Ahn Jae Hyun began receiving treatment for depression, a struggle that would later be cited as a factor in their marital strain. In August 2019, their relationship troubles exploded into the public eye. Ahn filed for divorce on September 9, 2019, and both parties began releasing statements, some via social media, that painted a deeply fractured picture of their marriage. Ku Hye Sun accused Ahn of erratic behavior and infidelity, while Ahn claimed she had invaded his personal space, even entering his home uninvited, and stated he had been dealing with depression throughout much of their marriage. On July 15, 2020, their divorce was finalized by the Seoul Family Court. In the end, both issued apologies for the public fallout and expressed intentions to move forward separately.
