“2022 Asia Artist Awards” Called Out For Mistreating Idols While Giving Actors “Preferential Treatment”

This is not the first time.

The 2022 Asia Artist Awards is just over, but fans are freshly up in arms over what many see as unfair treatment of idols. In a post-event group photo, it can be seen that the actors were all given chairs to sit on in front, while idols were standing behind or squatting along the sides. Only the MCs, Super Junior‘s Leeteuk, and IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung were also seated at the front with the actors.

It is more apparent in video.

Netizens and fans were outraged at the treatment. This preferential treatment was also apparent during the MAMA awards in the past. While idols are the ones performing and drawing in the crowd, actors in attendance were always treated better.

  • “They’re sh*tting me. How dumbfounding.”
  • “Did they mistreat the idols who attended all while spending their mornings writing dissing articles about the idols who did not attend?”
  • “OMG”
  • “Speaking severely, everyone is there to see the idols, so isn’t showing the audience such a scene just a way of looking down on the idols? Why did they even invite the actors? There were also issues about how idols who are invited to perform at actor award ceremonies were treated so why is it a given for idols to give actors the better treatment?”
  • “Worse than MAMA.”

Actors are often considered of a higher level and class compared to idols and singers. In the past, idols and singers were often called “ddan-ddaras“, or entertainers, a derogatory term indicative of the ages-old mindset that definitely needs to chance.
