Although K-Pop idols can seem like a world away with their fame, talent, and visuals, artists always make sure to find any way to communicate with fans whenever possible. Whether it’s through live broadcasts or social media, idols prove their love for fans.
Despite his busy schedule, one person who always makes time to chat with fans is ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo (also stylized as Cha Eun Woo).
Despite his schedule, Eunwoo recently took time out to chat with fans. Although it was only meant to be ten minutes, the idol chatted with fans for over 30 minutes, filling them in on his schedules, what he’s up to, and even mentioning the members.
During the live broadcast, Eunwoo was speaking about his upcoming projects, explaining, “The projects that I filmed over the last year…” However, before he could finish, netizens noticed that the broadcast suddenly cut off.
When the stream came back, Eunwoo seemed quite flustered and, in particular, his deep sigh showed his frustration. After the reaction, many assumed that a sasaeng (an obsessive fan who stalks or engages in other behavior seen as an invasion of privacy) had phoned him, which interrupted the broadcast.
After composing himself, Cha Eunwoo quickly started asking fans if they were able to see him properly. When many explained they could, the idol added, “You guys can see. That’s a relief.”
When the video was shared on social media, netizens couldn’t hide their anger at the sasaengs who had phoned, but also the people who they believed leaked the idol’s information.
Yet, Eunwoo isn’t the first idol who has had to deal with sasaengs recently. Throughout the year, netizens have watched idols react to being called by sasaengs on their live broadcast and have raised concerns, whether it was ATEEZ‘s Wooyoung scolding them…
BTS‘s Jungkook sharing his vulnerability when being contacted…
And even BTS Jimin’s more direct approach to the phone calls.
The issue of sasaengs calling idols by obtaining personal information has always been an issue in the industry. It seems like the problem hasn’t gone away, and the reactions from various idols on the issue prove that something needs to be sorted out.
