It was from two years ago.

Former FM Entertainment trainee Beomhan has been under fire again… for comments he made years ago.

Beomhan initially garnered attention as he toured around the United States with Jay Chang. They frequented K-Pop festivals and events, worked as baristas and servers, and performed as part of their Kpop Rookie Trainee Show. Beomhan became well-known for his friendly and charismatic personality. However, he is not free from criticism.

Some K-Pop fans frequently criticized Beomhan as it appeared he was more active on social media than actually training and pursuing his K-Pop career. He has since said that he felt pressure to go viral on behalf of the company.

In 2022, Beomhan faced severe backlash after making controversial statements regarding dating in the K-Pop industry.

A lot of like trainees and idols… they do [date] anyway, which I honestly think is kind of messed up, and it’s really unfair to the fans, in my opinion…

— Beomhan

At the time, he stated that idols should refrain from dating. Netizens had issues with this as it enforced the toxic fandom culture that if an idol dates, they are “cheating” or “betraying” fans.

I don’t think idols should be dating because it’s like … even though it’s not like an actual relationship, you have a connection with the fans, and it’s literally like you’re kind of betraying that and going behind their back. Imagine you pay like $200 to go to … an idol’s concert, and that idol pays like $200 buying gifts for like their girlfriend. Don’t you think that’s so messed up? Isn’t that so crazy?

Even during the backlash, Beomhan’s loyal fans attempted to defend him. They believe his live broadcasts have good intentions but sometimes he misspeaks due to his ADHD.

Shortly after Beomhan continually faced criticism due to his controversial statement, he addressed the matter on Instagram Live.

Whatever I believe for myself, I kind of like said about other people in like a way that was just not nice. I was like, ‘Oh, it’s messed up for them to do this.’

He personally apologized. He acknowledged that he should not have spoken about others’ lives and promised to be cautious moving forward.

But it’s like, who am I really to say anything about their lives? Right? So, I apologize, and I’m very sorry… I can see where… like there is a learning point for me and, in the future, I will be more careful with how I word things.

Additionally, Beomhan attempted to defend himself. He explained that he had probably come to the conclusion after training he had received in the K-Pop industry. Still, he realized he was wrong for what he said.

And also it was just a bad opinion like you learn certain things when you enter this industry, and you’re told certain things, and I kind of let that project onto other people. So, I apologize for that, and I’m sorry for how I worded it. I’m sorry for my L take.

Now, the clip of Beomhan’s controversial “hot take” about idols dating has resurfaced yet again. It’s gone viral, with netizens claiming this is why he “flopped.”

Fans have defended Beomhan, claiming he was taken advantage of by his company at the time. It was not his personal opinion.

Now, Beomhan has addressed the video for the second time.

On April 11, Beomhan held an Instagram Live. He talked about his upcoming events as well as the resurfaced clip.

During the live broadcast, Beomhan thanked his fans. He said it must be exhausting to be a fan of his due to constantly defending him against hate, especially on X (formerly Twitter). Beomhan revealed that he saw the resurfaced clip.

There’s a clip going around right now of me talking like two years ago. …Talking about like how idols shouldn’t date. Man, do whatever you want! I don’t care.

Again, Beomhan explained that he had come to that opinion only through it being taught to him by his company at the time. He no longer shares this belief. He reminded viewers that it was two years ago, and his mind has changed.

I don’t want to blame anyone, but I was part of like a system, and it’s kind of what they taught me. And I was just like, ‘Oh, then it must be correct.’ …I’m open to having my mind changed. Do whatever you want; I don’t care. …My company tells me one thing, and I’m just like, ‘Oh, okay, cool,’ and I believed it. And that was like two years ago.
