“We Had A Period Of Time Where We Were Broken Up” — BIGBANG’s Taeyang Reveals The Heartbreaking Origin Of “Eyes, Nose, Lips”

At least we got a hit song out of it.

To many, BIGBANG Taeyang‘s hit ballad, “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” was the perfect song to get them through a tearful breakup. Little did we know that the song was inspired by Taeyang’s real heartbreak with his now-wife, Min Hyo Rin.

On a recent episode of Yoo Quiz on the Block, Taeyang opened up about his love story with his wife. He had to hurriedly film his music video for “1AM” but they lacked a female lead. He hired Min Hyo Rin for the job through a friend’s recommendation. Thankfully, she agreed despite the short notice.

To thank her for her work, Taeyang treated her to a meal. During this time, he realized just how well they matched.

We were talking, and we matched so well. Even then, I had no dating experience, so I could have been uncomfortable talking to a woman; she was not awkward at all and led me well. So I said I wanted to see her again as we parted, and I contacted her next. The more I met her, the more I liked her. I thought I wanted to get married if it was with her.

Despite them being a match made in heaven, the two actually broke up for a short period. Taeyang confessed that he was too busy during his world tour, leading to a breakup. It was then that he wrote his epic breakup song, “Eyes, Nose, Lips.”

I was too busy, and as I was in the midst of a world tour, so there was barely any time that I was in Korea. Thinking about it now, I was so unknowledgeable as I didn’t have any dating experience. She must’ve felt frustrated at such points. So we had a period of time where we were broken up, and I made the song ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips,’ containing my feelings of missing her.

Thanks to the hit song, they were able to get back together! Taeyang admitted that the song was so sincere that it helped them to get back on track.

As I made the song, we ended up dating again. I showed the song to Min Hyo Rin as one that represents my feelings, and she loved it.

It’s not the first time that Taeyang has talked about this! He briefly admitted on Yoo Hui Yeol’s Sketchbook in 2014 that he had loved someone, but they had broken up. The song was created from missing his ex-lover. Taeyang and Min Hyo Rin got married four years later in 2018.
