BLACKPINK Jennie’s “Life-Threatening” Clubbing Activities Slammed By Korean Netizens

A video from the party was linked to a tragic fire that killed 40 in Switzerland.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie is facing criticism from Korean netizens after footage from her recent birthday celebration at a club in Japan spread online.

The video shows champagne bottles served with sparklers ignited indoors, with sparks shooting close to the ceiling as people dance nearby. While this type of club service is common in some nightlife scenes, many argue that it poses a serious safety risk.

The backlash comes at a sensitive time. Just weeks ago, a deadly fire broke out at a club in Switzerland after fireworks were used indoors during a celebration. The flames reportedly spread within seconds after igniting interior materials, killing more than 40 people and injuring over 100.

Following the incident, Swiss authorities banned the use of fireworks inside clubs, and several countries issued warnings urging venues and customers to avoid indoor mini fireworks altogether.

In South Korea, local fire departments have also repeatedly warned against using sparklers and similar items inside clubs, emphasizing the danger of low ceilings, flammable materials, and crowded spaces that make evacuation difficult in an emergency.

Against this backdrop, Jennie’s club video has reignited debate. Some netizens argue that she is being singled out for something that happens regularly in clubs, while others stress that repeated behavior does not make it safe, especially given her influence as a global celebrity.

  • “I’ve been served those a lot at clubs, but holding them that close to the ceiling is way too dangerous…”
  • “Wow, that’s dangerous.”
  • “She really looks thoughtless.”
  • “So this is just everyday life in clubs, huh? LOL. If there’s a fire, they’ll just deal with it themselves. Why should I care?”
  • “Honestly… this one too…”
