BLACKPINK’s Jisoo Spills On How She’s Feeling About Her Solo Debut

She put any doubts to rest.

BLACKPINK‘s Jennie was the first member to go solo, with her song “SOLO” in 2018, which created the precedent for the rest of BLACKPINK to make their solo debuts.

However, there was a long wait between Jennie making her solo debut and Rosé, who debuted with “On The Ground” and “Gone” in March 2021.

Fortunately, fans didn’t have to wait long before Lisa also made her solo debut, with “LALISA” and “MONEY” in September 2021.

Since then, fans have eagerly waited for Jisoo, who has continually demonstrated her skills, to make her solo debut. While the idol has made her debut as an actress with the K-Drama Snowdrop, fans have been waiting for any official update about her solo debut.

Fans only became more frustrated when BLACKPINK started their BORN PINK world tour, and Jisoo was the only member who performed a cover for her solo stage. While Jisoo’s performance of Camila Cabello‘s “Liar” was so impressive that the original singer even complimented it, fans felt frustrated that Jisoo didn’t get the opportunity to perform a song of her own, unlike the rest of her members.

The lack of an official update about Jisoo’s solo from YG Entertainment has been infuriating for fans who have only been able to get updates from Jisoo herself. In January 2022, Jisoo told a fan that they would have her solo in 2022.

Fan: Can we anticipate ChuSolo this year?

Jisoo: Oh, of course!

Unfortunately, since BLACKPINK are currently on tour, Jisoo releasing her solo debut in 2022 seems very unlikely. Some fans have referenced BLACKPINK’s interviews with Rolling Stone magazine as a reason for the delay.

I’m not sure how much I want to go solo yet.

The music I listen to, the music I can do, and the music I want to do – what should I choose? I love songs with lots of instruments. I love different bands and rock music. What do people want from me? There’s a chaos of conflicting questions.

I love to perform, but I don’t always enjoy being part of the spotlight. I think it’s different for the other members: They love to receive the spotlight, feeling energized by the people who come to see us, and then getting a bit depressed when the stage is over and silence arrives. I’m a little different. When I’m onstage, I think about not making mistakes. Performing sometimes feels more like a test than something genuinely fun.

While some fans believe that Jisoo’s comments indicated that she doesn’t want to go solo as an idol, others suggest that just because she is unsure of the genre and direction she wants to take, that doesn’t mean she isn’t excited or prepared for debuting as a soloist. Fans also continually point out how excited Jisoo has been when fans mention her solo, so it seems understandable that she’d want to take her time preparing it.

There is still no update from YG Entertainment about when Jisoo will make her solo debut. Still, at BLACKPINK’s recent concert in Atlanta, a fan managed to catch Jisoo’s attention with their Hello Kitty-themed hoodie.

Fan: I got this hoodie just for you, Jisoo.

Jisoo: Oh! Gimme, gimme.

And while the fan complimented BLACKPINK for being “amazing” at the concert, they also took the opportunity to excitedly talk about Jisoo’s solo.

Fan: I can’t wait for your solo.

Jisoo: Yeah, me too.

Because of Jisoo’s continued excitement around her solo debut, fans are hopeful that she will make her debut soon. Many fans are predicting that it’s possible she could debut in February 2023 since there is a gap in the world tour schedule.

And, of course, fans are just as excited as Jisoo.
