BLACKPINK’s Jennie Makes History With Her Album “Ruby”
Group BLACKPINK member Jennie has set a new milestone in K-pop history with her first full-length album, Ruby.
On the 3rd (local time), the U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone announced on its official website that Jennie’s first solo full album, Ruby, ranked 29th on The 100 Best Albums of 2025, marking the highest position ever achieved by a K-pop artist.
Rolling Stone praised, “The quick-moving Ruby leans heavily into the ideas that dominated R&B-leaning pop in the 2000s and ’10s, sometimes updating them in intriguing fashion. If there’s any artist whose specter hangs over the album, it’s Rihanna. Not only does Jennie have an impressive ability to command the center of candy-coated pop-R&B, there are some moments that feel like if not direct at least second-generation descendants of the hazy introspection shown by the Barbadian mogul on her 2016 classic, Anti.”
Additionally, Jennie was named number one in Forbes Korea’s Korean Idols of the Year 2025, proving her strong global influence.
On Spotify’s Spotify Wrapped 2025 chart, her album Ruby was the only K-pop solo artist album included in the Best Pop Albums of 2025. The title track, ‘like JENNIE,’ ranked 43rd among the Most Streamed Songs of 2025 worldwide, the highest position for a song by a K-pop female artist released this year.
Furthermore, “like JENNIE” ranked 62nd on Apple Music’s year-end chart Top 100: Global 2025, making Jennie the first K-pop solo artist to chart there.
Jennie’s first solo full album, Ruby, contains a total of 15 tracks across various genres, including the title track “like JENNIE.” She personally produced the album, reflecting her identity and boundless musical potential. Through diverse genres and concepts, Jennie showcased her musical possibilities as a solo artist, breaking firsts and records and continuously writing new history.
Jennie is currently on BLACKPINK’s BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR “DEADLINE”, and will head to Tokyo, Japan on January 16, 17, and 18 next year to connect with local fans. Following that, she will conclude the tour’s finale with three shows on the 24th, 25th, and 26th in Hong Kong, completing a total of 33 performances across 16 cities.
