BTS RM’s Shockingly Raw Livestream Triggers a Flood of Comments Calling for Disbandment

Was it just raw honesty or “guilt tripping”?

BTS member RM‘s late-night Weverse livestream on December 7, 2025 (KST) has garnered quite the attention for all the straight-shooting comments that were made…

…but it seems one in particular has set off Korean fans.

At one point, RM admitted that, during planning for their whole group comeback, there were “tens of thousands” of discussions about disbanding.

Would it be better to just disband? For example… Like, wouldn’t it be better to stop group activities? That crossed our minds tens of thousands of times.

While RM reassured that the members decided to continue because of their love for the team and BTS fans, it has not been received well by K-Pop fans in general.

RM Raises Questions With His Remark About The Changes In BTS’s Dynamics

A viral theqoo post titled “BTS’s RM Mentions Disbandment During Today’s Livestream” garnered over 1.1K comments from netizens who found his comment to be “thoughtless” and “gaslighting,” with some even encouraging the group to go ahead and disband.

  • “His comment is basically an unspoken pressure or warning… Like saying, ‘This is how seriously I’m thinking about things, so stop it already.’ That is literally gaslighting. Why would you say that to fans??? If you want to do it, just do it.”
  • “What is this, like a kid threatening their mom, ‘If you keep nagging, I won’t go to college’?? It sounds like a threat.”

  • “Talking about a team disbanding should be as serious as talking about divorce in a marriage…”
  • “He’s really being reckless LOL. Just disband already. The only reason ARMY still functions is because the fandom has already split into individual-member fandoms. The thing I want most is for BTS to disband.”
  • “He really comes off like someone who guilt-trips.”
  • “Considering what happened with Suga, it makes sense he’d think that way. The fandom got wrecked.”
  • “Did he think everyone would go, ‘OMG no, they can’t disband!!!’ and shut up if he brought up disbandment?”

  • “Hearing a currently active idol talk about disbandment at all is shocking… why keep bringing it up?”
  • “I mean, go ahead, then.”
  • “Why would he even say something like that to his own fans?”
  • “Didn’t he mention disbandment around the time they renewed their contracts, too? Back then I thought it was even more random, bringing it up when they were at the top.”
  • “You know, BTS is getting old. Why are they pushing this cringey emotional narrative onto fans in this day and age?”
  • “He’s really making his fans feel awful.”

The point of RM’s comment was, understandably, to emphasize that through all the ups and downs, both the members and the fans have always found ways to stick together—implying that even amid BTS’s prolonged “break” through 2025, the group will be OK.

Unfortunately, in the ever-changing landscape of K-pop and what it means to be an idol fan, his take seems to have missed the mark this time.

  • “It seems better for them to step down before things get any more embarrassing. It’s already embarrassing enough.”
  • “Hearing a member say the word ‘disband’ feels like a threat.”
  • “I’ve never seen an idol casually bring up disbandment like this… not even through an official statement from the company. Like… If you want to just do whatever you want, then go ahead. LOL. Sure, do everything you want!”
  • “What he wants to say is obvious, but he keeps circling around it. In the end, isn’t he basically saying they want to be able to date, party, and live like non-celebrities so they can grow or whatever? He danced around it, but that’s the gist.”
  • “‘Disbandment gaslighting’ at its peak. Now whatever happens from here on out will be blamed on the fans.”

  • “They’ve already lost their rookie mindsets ages ago. Might as well just disband LOL.”
  • “Do it LOL.”
  • “LOL… They’ve been getting away with manipulating fans for so long, but it doesn’t work anymore, does it?”
  • “No one told them not to live their own lives. People are just asking them not to do things they’d be ashamed of. Is he trying to say they don’t want to do this anymore but are only doing it for the money?”
  • “Fans have really changed now. Maybe it worked before, but it doesn’t fly these days. Just disband already.”
  • “Instead of saying ‘We’ll work harder’ like they used to, now they’re throwing threats around. Fine. Go date all you want.”
  • “Gaslighting fans into staying in the fandom doesn’t work anymore. The whole scene has really changed. K-Pop fans in general are just that exhausted.”
