Kim Yoo Jung’s New K-Drama Apologizes For Plagiarism Controversy
The new drama Dear X starring actress Kim Yoo Jung has been caught up in plagiarism controversy over its poster — and the production team has admitted to it and issued an apology.
The controversy began on the 8th when the launch poster for Dear X was unveiled. The design featured the English title “Dear X” in red letters on white paper, with only a pair of eyes peeking through. Online communities quickly raised concerns that the image was strikingly similar to the poster of the 2018 Chinese film The Devotion of Suspect X. Since Dear X is not a remake but an entirely separate production, the debate intensified, leading to the drama’s side officially admitting the issue and apologizing.

On September 9, 2025, TVING’s original series Dear X gave Xports News their statement.
“We belatedly recognized the similarities between the launch poster of Dear X and a specific reference. We have immediately stopped using it and will not use it going forward. We sincerely apologize for causing discomfort due to our lack of attention during the production process. We will strengthen our review procedures to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.”
Dear X follows the story of Baek Ah Jin (played by Kim Yoo Jung), a top actress who hides a cruel nature behind her beautiful face, and Yoon Jun Seo (played by Kim Young Dae), who chooses hell itself in order to protect her. It is described as the downfall of a star who crushes the lives of those around her, and the desperate love story of the man who sacrifices everything for her. The series is set to premiere on November 6. You can read more about the casting below.
