Viewers criticized Super Junior member Kyuhyun‘s behavior towards a female contestant, but also his alliance with EXchange 2 reality stair Jeong Hyun Gyu and actor Yoon So Hee.

Super Junior Kyuhyun’s Problematic Behavior To Female Contestant On “Devil’s Plan” Sparks Major Controversy

The trio was accused of working together to help Hyun Gyu, who won and took home the cash prize of ₩380 million KRW (about $279,000 USD). This, as well as viewers’ dislike of Hyun Gyu’s allegedly rude behavior during the show,  reportedly led to The Devil’s Plan: Death Room being dubbed “the worst survival game show ever.”

On May 27, a week after the show ended, Hyun Gyu met with reporters in Seoul and apologized for his on-screen behavior during a group interview.

Many people have judged my character, so I reflected on myself. … I sincerely committed to the program, and during that process, I think I said things that hurt others and showed an aggressive attitude. I feel sorry for making many people uncomfortable and causing trouble for the program, the production team, and the cast.

— Jeong Hyun Gyu

He also pledged that he would donate some of his winnings.

I regret that I should have played a bit more gently. After the program ended, I received the prize money, and since I feel I had a negative influence while winning, I plan to donate a certain amount. I will also enjoy some good food with the other contestants.
