“I Didn’t Eat Dessert For One or Two Years”: Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun Shares Her Diet & Health Habits

She’s a true professional.

Girls’ Generation‘s Seohyun is a triple threat: she can sing, dance, and act. On top of that, she has had stunning visuals since she debuted in 2007 when she was only 16—and has only blossomed more through the years.

Being a trainee, debuting, then becoming a world star at such a young age was most likely not easy. With the pressures of society, it is common for idols to feel the need to feel self-conscious about their bodies, especially when it comes to health and diet.

In a video for the magazine 1stLook, however, Seohyun talked about her healthy diet and life habits. She played the “Balance Game”—a game of “This or That” where she had to choose between two given options.

When asked to choose between “cardio on an empty stomach in the morning” and “weight training in the afternoon,” she chose the former without hesitation. Seohyun said that she currently doing cardio on an empty stomach every day because it seems to have a better effect on her, and her physical trainer said that doing this is great for dieting.

She chose “gym workouts” over “pilates” (even though she likes both) because she feels like she needs more muscle.

I like both, but I feel like I need a lot of muscle strength. Only when you have muscle strength, you can increase your basal metabolic rate, gain physical strength, and have balance in your body.

Between “meat or flour,” she chose meat because she could live without eating flour as someone who prefers rice. Also, she said she can’t give up meat because it’s protein.

Meat is protein. You need to eat protein to gain strength and muscles.

Seohyun then did a round of “This or That,” which revealed a fact about herself that showed her determination when it came to taking care of her body. When asked to pick the food she has to live without between “dessert and Korean food,” she easily chose to give up dessert, saying she “can’t live without Korean food.”

However, she seems to be able to live without dessert. Seohyun revealed that there was a time when she didn’t eat dessert for one or two years.

There was a time when I didn’t eat dessert for one or two years. If you stop eating dessert, you eventually end up not really craving it anymore. If I don’t eat Korean food once a day, it’s game over for me.

Contrary to some unhealthy dieting techniques, such as eating close to nothing or going on dangerous cleanses, Seohyun’s health and diet habits focused on building physical strength and muscles in a healthy way.
