ENHYPEN’s Ni-Ki Opens Up About Feeling Pressured During The Group’s Japanese Debut

Here’s what it was like for him.

As fans would know, ENHYPEN debuted in Japan on July 6, 2021 with the album BORDER: Hakanai.

At that time, Ni-ki—the only Japanese member of the group—felt the most pressure. He opened up about it in an interview with Weverse Magazine when he was asked about his experience.

You debuted in Japan this year and then appeared on music TV shows and did an assortment of other promotional activities. It must have felt very special to you.

Calling their Japanese debut “strange but also amazing,” Ni-ki added that he didn’t expect it to happen as quickly as it did. The overall response was good, relieving some of the responsibility that he felt.

I didn’t realize I’d end up debuting in Japan so soon. It felt strange but also amazing. I was relieved that they liked us in Japan as much as they seemed to. (laughs)

Weverse Magazine then asked if he felt pressured to represent the group in his home country.

I imagine you might have felt somewhat pressured, as you sometimes had to take on multiple roles and represent the group.

Ni-ki admitted that he took on a lot of responsibility and tried his best to lead his members well. One of the most difficult things he did was appearing on broadcasts by himself.

Ah, there were quite a lot. I’m the only Japanese member of the group so I kept thinking I needed to lead them well. I also felt a lot of responsibility whenever I went on TV by myself (laughs) so I was really relieved to see we did as well as we did.

At the end of the day, it was thanks to his and his members’ hard work that ENHYPEN was well-received in Japan!

I’m really proud to be promoting in Japan as a member of ENHYPEN,” he concluded.

Ni-ki isn’t the only member to have opened up about his work during an interview with Weverse Magazine. Read more about Heeseung’s experience below.
