Famous PD Na Young Seok Opens Up About Content Production Difficulties
On the 18th, famous Korean producer Na Young Seok appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel Korean Crying Guy and had a conversation.
Yoo Byung Jae complained that unlike before, it has become very difficult to predict the content market these days. Na Young Seok strongly agreed, saying, “Actually, I gave up on predicting a long time ago.” He added, “Now it’s a world where nothing is the right answer nor the wrong one,” and honestly expressed, “As someone who makes content, I think we are going through a really tough era.”
Na Young Seok mentioned his own production style, saying, “I rely a lot on my juniors. It’s like the saying ‘imitating what you’ve learned is stealing.’ I’m just continuing to do what I’ve always done,” jokingly. This was a self-deprecating acknowledgment of his style, well known through previous works like New Journey to the West, Three Meals a Day, Youn’s Kitchen, and Green Bean, Red Bean. His style involved varying familiar formats and drawing out unique relationships and steady laughs.
Na Young Seok also spoke about the difficulties of running a channel, saying, “I think the devil made this. Since recent video rankings are being given, you eventually end up competing with yourself and keep copying content that performs well.” Yoo Byung Jae agreed, saying, “We used to have some idea, but now we have no clue,” and the two shared their own advice on the channel operation approach.
Na Young Seok served as the executive producer of KBS’s representative variety show 2 Days & 1 Night from 2001 to 2012, leading the golden age of weekend flagship entertainment shows. Currently, after moving to the production company Egg Is Coming, he continues various activities through both directing broadcasts and running channels.
