Former basketball player and actor Oh Seung Hwan shared an update on his current life.
On the 9th, a video titled “Why I’m In A Wheelchair” was posted on the YouTube channel “Weracle.”
Oh Seung Hwan said, “I used to work as an actor and model, but now I’m in a wheelchair and active as a live creator on TikTok.”
Oh Seung Hwan revealed it’s been about six years since he started using a wheelchair, explaining, “It was winter, and on my way home after work, I fell near the flower bed inside the apartment complex. Because at that time there were a lot of icy roads. I fell backward onto my neck. After getting injured, my life took a very different direction.”
He said, “I injured my fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae. I usually didn’t upload videos showing me in a wheelchair because I was worried people might think I was exploiting my pain for broadcasting. I avoided showing that and conducted my broadcasts that way.”
He added, “I played basketball for about seven years. After I quit sports, I remember working really hard to prepare for acting, but after my injury, I felt everything fell apart. It was hard. For about six months to a year after getting hurt, I felt isolated from the world, not saying anything and just wondering to myself, ‘Can I live like this?’”
Oh Seung Hwan also confessed that he hadn’t worked hard on rehabilitation right after the injury, saying, “My mom and dad gave me a lot of courage. They said if I’m going to keep living, I should not give up and just keep going as far as I can. From then on, I didn’t sleep and worked hard on my rehab nonstop.”
