Get Ready For “Backstreet Rookie”: A Star-Studded Rom-Com Series To Follow “The King: Eternal Monarch”
On June 19, 2020 at 10PM KST, following The King: Eternal Monarch‘s end, a brand new webtoon-based romantic comedy series Backstreet Rookie will premiere.
Featuring leading actor Ji Chang Wook and actress Kim Yoo Jung — along with supporting idol-turned-actresses Han Sun Hwa and LABOUM‘s Solbin — this star-studded series is highly anticipated among K-Drama lovers.
Ji Chang Wook will take on the role of Choi Dae Hyun, the clueless branch manager of a franchise convenience store.
Kim Yoo Jung will take on the role of Jung Saet Byeol, the super-sexy rookie part-timer at Choi Dae Hyun’s branch.
Based on the webtoon, the plot will revolve around the passionate workaholic Choi Dae Hyun hiring the broken-but-bright-spirited Jung Saet Byeol to work at his Sinsung-dong branch convenience store. And, as all K-Dramas go, unintended romance sparks as the two come head to head over keeping the convenience store afloat and successful!
When the K-Drama remake was announced October 2019, some readers expressed concerns as the original webtoon is actually on the racier side. Rated PG-15 for SBS channel though, it seems the television version of Backstreet Rookie will keep things light, fun, and swoon-worthy.
K-Drama fans can’t wait for this A+ chemistry. Will you be tuning in for the first episode?
