(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon And IU Are The Only Two Female Idols To Achieve This Honor

This proves the genius and versatility of both artists.

The winners of the 14th annual Melon Music Awards, or MMAs, were announced on November 26, 2022. The event had many iconic moments, including NewJeans Danielle‘s breathtaking visuals, LE SSERAFIM Sakura‘s detailed choreography, and TXT Soobin‘s muscular arms.

Among the awardees was (G)I-DLE’s leader Soyeon, who won the “best songwriter” title for her composition and lyric writing work on the group’s 2022 comeback albums I Never Die and I Love, particularly their hit singles “Tomboy” and “Nxde.”

Her win was even more special because she and legendary soloist IU are the only two female K-Pop idols to win the award, making Soyeon the first female idol group member winner. IU had previously won in 2017 and 2021.

Neverlands, (G)I-DLE’s official fandom, took to Twitter to celebrate the historic moment.

Soyeon’s fellow member Minnie couldn’t hold back her tears as her friend accepted the award. The entire group hyped up Soyeon as she made her acceptance speech.

The title is another well-deserved honor for (G)I-DLE’s fearless leader.
