Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung Unexpectedly Namedrops MAMAMOO’s Hwasa During Interview
Recently, Sooyoung from Girls’ Generation caught MAMAMOO fans off guard after unexpectedly mentioning Hwasa in her interview.
Sooyoung recently appeared as a guest on Yoo Yoon Seok’s YouTube channel, and the two talked about her craft, the changing aspects K-Pop industry, and more.
While talking about the new trends in the industry, Yoo asked Sooyoung if she was “keeping an eye on” any specific artist these days. The idol responded that it was Hwasa, calling her “just incredible.”
Sooyoung praised her junior, saying, “I hope we see more artists like her.” Explaining her deep appreciation for Hwasa’s music, the Girls’ Generation member pointed out that she loved how her music was rooted in authenticity.
What I always say in meetings is, ‘At this point in time, shouldn’t we be telling the story that only we can tell?’ That’s always the core of it for me. Artists like Hwasa, it really feels like they’re telling their own story. Starting from that message, everything expands from there: the music video, the concept, the performances. It all grows and flows together organically, to the point where it feels like you’ve watched a complete work of art.

Yoo Yoon Seok also chimed in, commending Hwasa for the journey she has undertaken as an artist. Sooyoung jumped back in with more praise, pointing out how artists can stray from their original message while trying to create a work of art. “Artists who believe in themselves enough to tell their own story without wavering, all the way to the end…I really envy artists like that,” Sooyoung admitted.
This unexpected praise coming from the veteran idol-actress has been received fondly by Hwasa’s fans.
