Girls’ Generation YoonA’s New Movie Outperforms “Omniscient Reader: The Prophet” And It Hasn’t Even Released Yet

Girls’ Generation member YoonA‘s return to the big screen is already sweeping up at the box office, and it hasn’t even been released yet.

YoonA is set to appear in the upcoming horror-comedy movie Pretty Crazy, along with Ahn Bo Hyun as the male lead. The film will also mark YoonA’s reunion with director Lee Sang Geun, who previously helped the 2019 box office hit, EXIT. The last collaboration between the two brought in 9.42 million footfall at the theaters, and judging by the early numbers, they might be able to achieve astounding viewership yet again with this new genre-blending movie.

As per the real-time box office ranking of the Korean Film Council on August 1, KST, Pretty Crazy placed third in advance ticket sales with a 6.9% booking rate. This is a significant number given that the movie is still two weeks away from its release date.

Pretty Crazy is trailing behind F1: The Movie in second place, and My Daughter is a Zombie in first. Notably, it has outperformed the 30-billion-won production, OmniscientReader: The Prophet, which ranked fourth in advance ticket sales.

The movie has garnered significant attention for its intriguing plot, which blends comedy with horror. Pretty Crazy follows Gil Goo (Ahn Bo Hyun), an unemployed man, who lands himself a bizarre job of watching over a woman named Seon Ji (YoonA), who turns into a demon every night. Apart from the leads, the cast includes Song Dong Il and Joo Hyun Young.

Expectations about the movie’s box office performance were already high, given the cast and crew behind it. With the early numbers punching in, industry insiders are even more interested in seeing how the box office showdown will proceed with multiple big-name movies playing simultaneously.

Pretty Crazy is scheduled to be released on August 13 across theaters in South Korea.
