Lead Actress Reveals How She Actually Felt About Shooting Her “Worst K-Drama Ever”
In her latest YouTube update, When The Stars Gossip lead actress Gong Hyo Jin opened up about how difficult it was to star in the tvN show that had initially created so much anticipation for being an expensive space-based K-Drama.

In the video, which she titled “Something I Really Wanted To Talk About, Though It’s Late,” as she detailed some behind-the-scenes stories from the production, the actress expressed exhaustion at the utter difficulty of shooting the zero-gravity scenes. She recalled how, at times, she had to shoot for 15+ hours on wires, with nearly half that time being spent suspended in the air.
Honestly, except for one episode out of sixteen, everything took place in space. Shooting the zero-gravity scenes took an incredibly long time. It took over two months to film a single episode… While shooting the mid-air scenes, my blood circulation got so bad I had to shout, ‘Please let me down now!’ I really cannot believe that I got through a whole year working on it.

Despite all the hard work that went in, and the huge ₩50.0 billion KRW (about $35.1 million USD) budget that was publicized, When The Stars Gossip failed to charm the viewers and ended up earning scathing reviews—including some that have since dubbed it “the worst K-Drama ever.”

The actress admitted, “The storyline was quite complex” and so she worried “it might not be easy for viewers to follow.”

Every part of filming this show was a new experience. I kept wondering if pre-production had to be all that extensive. Some parts even required post-production work for up to two years. The storyline was quite difficult, and I thought it might not be easy for viewers to understand.

Gong Hyo Jin joked, “I doubt anyone will dare to make another space show for a while.”
