After having left JYP Entertainment earlier this year, the members of GOT7 have been focusing on solo projects but have vowed to keep the group together and continue making music. Holding true to that promise, the group released a song, “Encore,” just a month after leaving the company. Now, leader Jay B has opened up on the group and his long-term plans.

He hinted at working on a solo album which he described as containing soft emotions of sadness and desperation that everyone experiences through life. He expressed wanting to be able to portray a variety of different moods, emotions, and genres.

I’m a perfectionist so whatever I do, I want to do it properly. At times, I’ve wondered how I can do better, and I got a lot of inspiration for my music and my life by listening to stories from people like my parents or older brothers who experienced things first before I did.

GOT7 didn’t go the way I imagined but thankfully we grew to be a team that can embody various songs such as “Look” and “Breath” and leave a big impression on fans. Likewise, I wish for my image not to be fixated on one thing.

He then reflected on the time he spent with his group and reminisced on the good times.

When I look back on our 7 years of promotions, the most memorable moment is around 2-3 years ago in Thailand. We performed our solo tracks for 7 days and then performed “OUT” together as a group. We were all so excited to perform. I often think of the times we were together as 7.

Of course, before the interview ended, Jay B made sure to emphasize that, although they may have left JYP Entertainment, GOT7’s story is far from over. He expressed his gratitude for their fans and wants to be able to thank them for their support through music and performances.

We want to try to release at least one album a year. It would be great if we could perform on stage, too. I’ve talked a lot with the members about how we feel during specific times in our lives and discuss what topics and themes we want to include in our albums. I think that’s the least courtesy we can offer to the fans.
