Who Earns The Most In i-dle? Hint — It’s Not Soyeon

It’s a big market there.

On the latest episode of MBC’s The Manager, i-dle’s (formerly known as (G)I-DLE) Soyeon candidly addressed the salary speculations surrounding her impressive portfolio as a songwriter. With 88 songs registered under her name with the Korea Music Copyright Association, there has been talk that her royalties could afford several luxury cars. In addition, many are quick to assume Soyeon earns the most in the group due to her position as producer.

Soyeon denied the claims, admitting that royalties are not high to begin with. In face, another member earns more than her! Yuqi earns more in China from her promotions there, where she has taken on acting roles, variety show features, and more.

“Honestly, the royalties aren’t that high. No matter how many songs I write, Yuqi earns more through her income in China.”

Soyeon had previously shared on a web variety show that her royalty earnings have ranged widely, from a peak of ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $715,000 USD) in a single month to as low as ₩100,000 KRW (about $71.50 USD) during slower periods.

Yuqi also shared that she recently bought a car for her parents after contract renewal. Prior to contract renewal, all income, including from solo activities, had to be split amongst all members equally. Now, each member can take home everything they make by themselves!
