She will not be participating.

Singer and actress Kang Mina will unfortunately not be joining the I.O.I 10th anniversary reunion project. On September 12, 2025, multiple music industry insiders revealed that while I.O.I’s 10th debut anniversary reunion project is scheduled for next year, Kang Mina’s participation has ultimately fallen through.

Previously, news of an I.O.I reunion had begun to materialize. Jeon Somi, who won first place on Mnet’s Produce 101 and became a member of I.O.I, even stated in a recent interview that she felt great about the reunion.

“I feel very positive about the reunion. We’re already adjusting our schedules in advance.”

Discussions about the group’s reunion began this year to prepare for the 10th anniversary, and most of the members have expressed their willingness to participate.  The reunion is expected to take place in May next year, in line with I.O.I’s debut date. However, Kang Mina, who has since transitioned into acting, is unable to participate. After I.O.I’s disbandment, she re-debuted with Gugudan and is now actively working as an actress.

She has already been cast in the upcoming Netflix drama Ggri-go as well as tvN’s See You at Work Tomorrow!. Despite her efforts to adjust her schedule to join the group reunion, it has been confirmed that she will not be able to make it. Her company gave a brief statement.

“The period being discussed for the reunion overlaps with the filming of her next drama and its subsequent promotional schedule, which caused much consideration. We understand fans have been waiting a long time and had high expectations, so we had long discussions with the artist. Ultimately, respecting her wish to focus on her acting activities, we have decided that she will not be able to participate in this reunion project.”

While fans will be disappointed, the rest of the group is still set to reunite. Watch this space for more on I.O.I’s iconic reunion.
