During a guest appearance on Park So Hyun’s Love Game radio show alongside fellow ILLIT members Mocha and Yunah, Wonhee was asked to select a song to be played. She chose TWICE’s “Heartshaker” and explained her decision by saying:

So I had to decide between BTS sunbaenims’ “I Need You” and this. But I went with “Heartshaker” because I think, when I hear “K-Pop Girl Group,” it has always been TWICE sunbaenims for me. Since I was young, TWICE sunbaenims have been a huge part of my life. I would always watch all of their new content. And when this came out, I used to dance to it all the time.

However, things quickly escalated online after a mistranslation of her statement began circulating on X (formerly Twitter). The incorrect translation read, “In my opinion, when it comes to the most popular girl group, it’s always been TWICE.

The phrasing led some international fans to interpret her comment as dismissive of other top girl groups, in particular BLACKPINK. This ignited a fan war, with several posts criticizing Wonhee going viral.

As the situation grew, many fans of ILLIT stepped in to clarify that Wonhee’s original comments had been misunderstood. They shared the full quote and emphasized that she was simply expressing personal admiration for TWICE.

Despite the efforts to clear up the confusion, the backlash against Wonhee continued to gain traction across social media.
