Actress Im Soo Hyang, long known for her “gold spoon” image, has finally clarified the truth behind her wealthy upbringing, and the real jobs her parents had.

During a recent broadcast of MBC’s Chef of Antarctica, Im Soo Hyang surprised viewers and cast members alike when she casually revealed her parent’s job.

The confession came after Baek Jong Won asked the cast about their cooking backgrounds, leading Im to explain that her parents ran a buffet when she was young.The unexpected admission immediately made sense of the long-standing perception that she was born into a wealthy family. After the episode aired, posts began circulating online claiming her parents’ buffet was actually a well-known, successful restaurant in Busan.

Her “rich kid” reputation began spreading heavily through her YouTube channel as well. In earlier videos, Im Soo Hyang openly shared glimpses of her luxurious past — such as owning expensive designer padding as a teen, living in a 62-pyeong (2,200 sq ft) Cheongdam-dong villa, and even owning a Lamborghini supercar.

These clips led many to believe she was from a chaebol family, but Im Soo Hyang has now clarified the full story. She admitted that she did grow up comfortably thanks to her parents’ successful business, but added that her family’s situation changed dramatically after she debuted. Her parents’ business struggled, her father’s health declined, and Im stepped in as the breadwinner and has been supporting her family for over 10 years!
