IVE are currently in the midst of their world tour. It seems like one fan took the opportunity to share their honest thoughts about IVE at a recent concert, and it wasn’t positive.

When IVE released their track “HEYA” back in May, netizens alleged that the group was “stealing” Chinese culture and accused them of calling it Korean. On forums, fans shared screenshots from the video and put them next to Chinese artwork and inspirations.

On Threads, an OP shared photos of a fan attending one of the IVE shows.

The photos showed two signs being held up at the IVE concert that were seemingly linked to the issue from “HEYA.” The Chinese photo read, “IVE, stop being thieves,” and the Korean sign read, “Stop cultural appropriation.”

When the photo was posted, fellow netizens blasted the fan for their sign, explaining that it was a pointless gesture and how it is going too far.

  • Seriously? Isn’t it super normal for Asian cultures to influence one another? Why do they keep talking about “stealing”? Is it cultural appropriation for their dramas to have characters wearing suits and dresses? Why don’t they all wear robes and traditional jackets? Psycho.
  • They bought a ticket just to show the sign and were super proud of it, but [IVE] couldn’t even see the words while on stage.
  • Someone commented that the original poster translated the phrase incorrectly, but they responded saying, ‘It’s okay, Jang Wonyoung probably knows how to read the Chinese, because she is Chinese.’ It’s so stupid, I’m laughing my head off.
  • Steal and rip it up.

It isn’t the first time netizens have voiced their anger about the music video but this time, netizens have hit back at the person’s actions. You can read more about the issue below.
