Recently, it seems like one of the true K-Pop “IT” Girls is IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung.
After first gaining the attention of fans during the series Produce 48 before debuting in IZ*ONE, the idol has become one of the hottest stars in the industry.
Since she first debuted, the idol has always gained attention for being a visual queen. Wherever she goes, Jang Wonyoung has always been praised for her visuals, taste in fashion, and undeniable proportions.
Yet, she has also gained praise for her incredible on-stage presence during performances.
However, although always praised for her visuals, many netizens have raised concerns about the well-being of Jang Wonyoung.
Recently, a Korean forum posted pictures of Jang Wonyoung when she was part of IZ*ONE compared to images from a recent recording of Music Bank. In the photos, the OP was raising concerns that the idol seemed to have lost a lot of weight in only a few years, and it was extremely noticeable,
Yet, it isn’t the first time that pictures have been shared of the idol where netizens have worried about the idol’s health. In recent pictures, Jang Wonyoung’s weight loss has been noticeable, particularly due to her tall height.
After the recent images were released, international netizens raised concerns about the well-being of the idol, adding the lack of concern those around her have. Many also criticized the “K-Pop” mentality, and the unrealistic standards of beauty idols are held to.
Many also pointed out that the constant praise for Jang Wonyoung’s “proportions” and “physique” might make many idols feel there is a need to continue living up to those expectations.
Even on Reddit, a post named “Someone needs to step in to help Wonyoung” gained attention as hundreds of fans raised their concerns for the health of the idol.
For many, they wanted someone to step in, whether it was her family or Starship Entertainment. They hoped that fans’ concerns would be heard. They also hoped netizens wouldn’t use it as an excuse to criticize or speculate anything, as they just want the best for the idol.
The reasons behind the concerns come from the stories within the K-Pop industry. It is well-known that companies and idols will go to extreme lengths to look a certain way and match the Korean standards of beauty. Yet, the impact it has on an idol’s body has also raised concerns.
Ladies’ Code‘s Ashley Choi once shared the hardships she went to in order to maintain a certain weight, even explaining that she stopped having her monthly period due to the stress and impact dieting had on her body.
Jang Wonyoung has been in the spotlight since she was only 13 when she first made an appearance on Produce 48. Since debuting with IVE, it seems like her fame has only skyrocketed. She has become a “Golden Girl” with promotions, endorsements and commitments.
Yet, many forget just how young she is. The recent images have raised concerns for her well-being and the fact she is underweight, hoping that it raises awareness.
