HYBE Girl Group Heavily Criticized For “Messy” Live Singing Skills

Even fans aren’t impressed.

HYBE and Geffen’s global girl group KATSEYE is facing heavy criticism after clips of their recent live performance began circulating online. They had performed fully live without a backing track for the 2025 NRJ Music Awards. Singing “Gabriella,” their latest hit, the girls bravely took on the challenge of singing while dancing live.

Although they have been known for their performance skills, fans and netizens quickly noticed that the vocals didn’t match expectations, with some calling the performance “messy.”

Netizens singled out Daniela‘s solo part, done in Spanish.

Even EYEKONS agreed, wondering why she could not hold her notes while standing still.

On the other hand, fans defended the girls, claiming that the broadcasted version sounded worse than it did in the arena. Often times, the audio from microphones are directly broadcast to the live stream, making it sound extremely raw, especially without a backing track. Arena reception and background noise can help performers sound more stable.

As clips continue to spread across X (formerly Twitter), debate grows between fans and critics, with some defending the girls and others strictly criticizing their skills.
