Recently, KATSEYE member Yoonchae hosted a solo livestream, where she shared a story about her discovering the meaning of the word “lottery” while she was hanging out with her groupmates. She recalled seeing a store at the airport with an intriguing shiny exterior, and when she saw the word “lottery” on it, she asked her members what the word meant.

Yoonchae continued, stating that Daniela was baffled that she didn’t know what “lottery” meant, but then Sophia chimed in, saying, “She probably knows if you say it with a Korean accent.”

She then laughingly added that someone out of her groupmates pronounced it in a Konglish accent, prompting Yoonchae to finally realize “lottery” was the English word for “lotto,” the Konglish term used widely in Korea.

Though Yoonchae appeared to have shared the story lightheartedly, the response on social media has been mixed. While some fans found the story amusing…

…many felt that the members’ response to Yoonchae sounded like mockery, and some even accused the members of being racist toward her.

What’s your take on this?
