Newly Divorced Actress’s Past Comment About Her Ex-Husband Resurfaces

Amid the unexpected news of her divorce after 11 months of wedlock to movie director Jo Ba Reun, actress Kim Bo Ra’s past comments on her marriage have resurfaced.

On May 10, 2025 (KST), Kim Bo Ra’s management announced, “After much careful consideration and sufficient discussion, Kim Bo Ra and Jo Ba Reun have amicably completed the divorce process by mutual agreement.” The two tied the knot on June 8, 2024, after working on Jo Ba Reun’s K-Movie, The Grotesque Mansion, together.
At the time, Kim Bo Ra was 29—relatively early for marriage among her actor peers (among her actor peers in the entertainment business, at least)—and so the news of her marriage attracted a lot of attention. Now, the news of her divorce within less than a year has placed her in the spotlight again.

Now, the news of her divorce within less than a year has placed her in the spotlight again. Her comment about Jo Ba Reun from an October 2024 interview has caught the public’s eye. Following a successful run of her MBC K-Drama Death To Snow White: Black Out, Kim Bo Ra spoke about the changes that her marriage had brought.
Referring to him as her own “bamboo forest,” a Korean metaphor that refers to a safe, private space where someone can vent or speak honestly without judgment, Kim Bo Ra showed appreciation toward her husband and him working in the same field.
It felt like I finally had a bamboo forest. By nature, I’m the type to not talk much about my hardships even while working. I didn’t open up to family or friends. But now that I’m married to someone in the same field, I’ve learned to talk a little more. I’ve started to express myself more honestly, and that’s been a big change.

In response to the nudge at getting married “so soon” as a younger actress, she said, “I actually have more non-celebrity friends than celebrity friends, and I talk to them and see them more often. Since many of my school friends married early, this just felt like a natural thing.”

It seems, however, that even after dating three years, marriage isn’t the most natural thing. JTBC reported that the two ultimately split ways after being unable to bridge the differences in their personalities—while Kim Bo Ra’s management simply asked the public to refrain from speculating about the real reasons.
