Korea Entertainment Management Association Makes Strong Statement On Park Na Rae’s Controversy
The Korea Entertainment Management Association‘s (hereinafter “KEMA”) Reward and Punishment Adjustment Ethics Committee (hereinafter “Ethics Committee”) stated on the 17th through an official statement that it will take a firm stance on the issues revealed by the recent controversy surrounding Park Na Rae.
The Ethics Committee of KEMA said, “Regarding the recent Park Na Rae incident, we have determined that Park Na Rae’s actions seriously disrupted the sound morals and order of the popular cultural arts industry and hindered the development of the industry. We express deep concern and regret over the confusion and significant ripple effects caused throughout the entertainment sector.”
Furthermore, the committee called for thorough investigation and punishment by related investigative agencies concerning allegations including: Park Na Rae’s unregistered status in the popular cultural arts planning business and failure to enroll managers in the four major social insurance programs; workplace harassment such as forcing managers to run personal errands and verbal/physical abuse; illegal medical procedures performed by unlicensed individuals dubbed “injection auntie” and “IV auntie”; non-payment of Park Na Rae’s hosting fees; and embezzlement allegations involving company funds paid to an ex-boyfriend.
They also pointed out, “In light of this Park Na Rae case, when popular cultural artists lack a system to control their social influence, inappropriate behavior by stars can occur and lead to social repercussions due to insufficient preventative measures and lack of purification.” Moreover, “Entertainers who generate income and activities from public interest and love also bear great responsibility as public figures.”
Additionally, the statement emphasized, “As a star in Korea who is involved in a problematic incident, continuing entertainment activities without sincerely and respectfully taking responsibility as a public figure and asking the public for understanding is inappropriate.” The committee added, “Therefore, KEMA’s Ethics Committee will encourage in-depth and serious discussions with involved artists whenever such issues arise in the future, aiming to foster consensus with the public. This incident will serve as a turning point to properly establish the relationship between managers and entertainers in the industry.”
