Korean TV Star Recalls 20-Minute Cardiac Arrest Near-Death Experience
Comedian Kim Soo Yong shared his experience of escaping the threat of a heart attack on the December 10 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block.

Kim Soo Yong recently made headlines due to a heart attack. It was revealed that he suffered not just a simple heart attack but a 20-minute cardiac arrest, taking him all the way to the morgue, shocking many.
He recounted, “Im Hyung Joon and Kim Sook‘s manager alternated doing CPR.” He said he doesn’t remember losing consciousness. Yoo Jae Suk added, “Im Hyung Joon had his angina medication hanging on a necklace and gave it to Kim Soo Yong.”
Kim Soo Yong added, “My tongue was rolling back, but Kim Sook pulled it forward so it wouldn’t, and the paramedics arrived quickly. Two ambulances came, but one had to take a guardian, and Kim Sook’s manager got on that one. On the way, the ambulance stopped because of a breakdown, but luckily, the one I was in kept going. Isn’t that lucky? It’s divine luck,” expressing gratitude.
He continued, “When I regained consciousness, I felt fear. I saw patients delirious and screaming, and those passing away from cardiac arrest. I did a lot of thinking about life and death alone there. Life can end in an instant—if I had died there, it would have been so meaningless. Sudden death? This could happen to me, it can happen to anyone. I was extremely lucky. Waking up was fortunate,” saying he is currently quitting smoking.
Kim Soo-yong concluded, “Once I’m better, I feel it’s proper to meet them in person and thank them. I will live healthier and show that going forward,” sincerely conveying gratitude.
