“Beautiful” Korean Woman Charged With Murdering Men, Netizens Defend Her
On February 11, a 21-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly inflicting bodily injury that killed two men and harmed a third. Her charge has now been upgraded to murder.
According to police, the suspect’s first murder attempt took place last December, when she gave her then-boyfriend a drink spiked with sedatives containing benzodiazepines in the parking lot of a cafe in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. This caused him to lose consciousness, but he survived.
On January 28, the suspect–identified by her surname, Kim–allegedly gave a man in his 20s a drink that killed him. He was found dead inside their motel room, located in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk District, the next day. According to police, the drinks given to the murder victims contained much higher doses of the drug Kim had allegedly given to her boyfriend.
On February 9, Kim checked into a different motel in Gangbuk with a man in his 20s, and he died after ingesting the beverage she allegedly gave him.
After Kim’s arrest, Seoul police uncovered disturbing details about the events leading up to the victims’ deaths. An analysis of Kim’s phone revealed that she had repeatedly as ChatGPT about mixing alcohol with sleeping pills. The queries include:
- “What happens if you take sleeping pills with alcohol?”
- “How many do you need to take for it to be dangerous?”
- “Could it kill someone?”
However, these murders aren’t the only reason why Kim is attracting attention. Her appearance is also making headlines. Kim’s alleged social media account reportedly jumped from about 200 followers to over 10,000 within ten days after it was exposed.
According to one report, she was reportedly active on her account through her alleged crime spree, up until thirty minutes before her arrest.
Some netizens are now romanticizing and defending Kim, partly because of her appearance.
