A male streamer who live-streamed the sexual assault of an unconscious woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the first trial. On May 21, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 29 sentenced a man in his 30s, identified by the surname Kim, to eight years in prison on charges including forced molestation.
The court also ordered that, following his release, Kim be placed under three years of probation and barred from employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for ten years. Kim was indicted after he allegedly committed sexual assault against an unconscious woman while live-streaming the act to an audience of approximately 200 viewers last year. Despite the number of viewers, no one reported the incident to the police until the victim became aware of the assault and filed a report herself.
The court rejected Kim’s claim that the victim had consented and noted that he streamed the matter for commercial gain.
“It is not reasonable to believe that the victim, who was unconscious, was aware of or consented to the live-streamed sexual contact. It is reasonable to conclude that the defendant streamed the incident to attract more viewers with provocative content and to generate profit.”
Netizens were absolutely disgusted at the sentence and at the act.

- F*ck, sentence the 200 viewers too.
- I think they could even go for 80 years.
- Are they joking? F*ck.
- Throw them all in jail, f*ck.
The 200 viewers have not been arrested or called up for investigation or potential charges yet.
