What Really Happened To K-Pop’s Controversial British Girl Group KAACHI?

They didn’t really disband.

Has KAACHI finally made their comeback?

KAACHI, formed by FrontRow Records and produced by Monica Lee, debuted on April 15, 2020, with the single “Your Turn.” On April 29, they made their official Korean debut and are considered the first UK-based K-Pop group.

‘KAACHI, which translates to ‘Value’ and ‘Together’ in Korean, is the world’s first K-pop girl group to debut in the UK!’

KAACHI, who is based in London, is a K-pop girl group consisting of Nicole, Chunseo and Coco! Formed by Frontrow Records launched in 2020, KAACHI is creating their own sound, girl-power with the elements of pop, hip-hop and K-pop!

The group consisted of four members at the time: Spanish member Nicole, who is the Leader, Main Vocalist, Main Dancer, and Lead Rapper; Spanish Filipina member and Nicole’s friend of 8+ years; Chunseo, who is the Main Rapper, Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Center, Visual, and Maknae, the only Korean member Coco, who was the Lead Vocalist, and Sub-Rapper, and British member Dani, who was the Main Rapper, Dancer, and Sub-Vocal.

This was not the original lineup, though. Originally, KAACHI was Nicole, Dani, Chunseo, and KG. These four already knew each other from the British K-Pop dance cover group UJJN.

But KG left for personal reasons in January 2020, and Miso replaced her. Obviously, Miso was not the debuting member we recognize. Ultimately, Coco replaced her.

Yet, less than a year later, it was announced Dani would be leaving the group. She chose not to renew her contract with FrontRow Records, leaving KAACHI on July 23, 2021.

Since KAACHI debuted, they have been faced with criticism. Netizens criticized them for not being Korean, lack of synchronization, lack of training, and more. Still, they did not give up. Starting in August 2021, KAACHI began promoting as a three-member group with the single “One Thing.” It was followed by “Extra Special” and a remake of Baby V.O.X‘s 1999 song, “GET UP.”

However, another surprise came when it was announced that Coco would leave the group on September 2, 2022. The statement claimed that it was primarily due to issues with the company, and she would continue as a solo artist.

So, for a period, KAACHI consisted of only two members, Nicole and Chunseo. KAACHI had also not updated social media since last year. After we initially reported about fans’ concern over the lack of updates in February of this year, KAACHI’s official social media released a statement announcing the group’s disbandment.

Now, several months later, we have an update on the KAACHI members. The group technically did not disband.

The members left their company and are no longer “KAACHI.” Yet, Coco, Chunseo, and Nicole stayed together and have rebranded as ATTI, meaning “friend” in old Korean. In Spanish, it means “to you,” so they intend ATTI to communicate that they can be a “friend to you.”

While the group only has 7.6K subscribers on YouTube, they are also active on TikTok as @attiofficial_ with 25.9K followers at the time of writing.

Likewise, they post official content and their TikTok dance challenge videos on Instagram (@attofficial_), where they have now garnered 19K followers at the time of writing.

While many are now rediscovering the group, ATTI actually officially debuted on August 11, 2023, with the single “Blue.”

This month, they released their first EP, Peaches, with the new song “Regeneration.” The group has indeed found their style, showcasing their true talents and incorporating their respective native languages.

We also admire that the girls never gave up and continue to follow their dreams!
