P.S. Oh, and this isn’t an actual cathedral. It’s a banquet hall/restaurant inside a hotel that preserved the walls of what used to be a cathedral hundreds of years ago. Though I’m not Catholic, I am a Christian. And if taking these photos while standing on what looked like an altar made anyone uncomfortable, I’m truly sorry!!! I’ll make sure to be more careful and mindful in the future!!!!
— Lee Min Jung
Lee Min Jung’s apologetic clarification has garnered much support from Korean netizens who now believe the “controversy” was “over nothing.” Hundreds of comments across online communities, like theqoo, sided with Lee Min Jung, praising her for a mature response to the unwarranted hate.

- “I’m Catholic, and whenever we do volunteer work or group activities, we always take group photos on the altar steps. I don’t get what the issue is here…”
- “I’m Catholic too, and I’ve also taken photos with the altar in the background when visiting churches as tourist spots. Besides, that place isn’t even a church anymore.”
- “LOL, this is hilarious. Some people just wanted an excuse to bash her, hiding behind religion as a shield. They just wanted to hate.”
- “Seriously, stop nitpicking female celebrities so much.”
- “I’m Catholic too, but when I travel and visit churches, I take pictures in front of the cross…”
- “This is so embarrassing LOL. In Europe, everyone takes photos in churches, so I thought, ‘What’s the problem?’ And it even turned out to be a RESTAURANT?! LOL. Yesterday, some comments said they looked it up and claimed it was a sacred spot only clergy could step on and that everyone else quietly passed by. Lmao. In the end, it was just jealousy toward a woman and her Fendi bag. This is why you really can’t trust random community comments when people are dragging someone.”
- “Must’ve been the haters making a fuss again.”
- “Seems like a lot of people get jealous and bitter toward female celebs around her age. Seriously.”
Lee Min Jung is assumed to be in Venice with her actor husband, Lee Byung Hun, co-starring in director Park Chan Wook‘s K-Movie, No Other Choice, with Son Ye Jin. The movie was invited to the “81st Venice International Film Festival.”
