Lee Seung Gi Expresses Gratitude For All The Praise He Received For His Psychopath Role In “Mouse”

His character was super tricky to play.

Following the wrap-up of the K-Drama Mouse, Lee Seung Gi sat down for an interview and expressed his thoughts on the drama and his performance.

Mouse centers around Lee Seung Gi’s character Jung Ba Reum who is definitely a character with several dimensions. While he is often kind and pure, Jung Ba Reum is also a psychopathic predator!

While Lee Seung Gi is a great actor, he was worried he might be lacking in acting. Despite his concerns, Lee Seung Gi received much praise from fans for his first villain role.

I’m still amazed by all the compliments my acting has received. I always said that I wanted to be recognized as acting, but I’ve always felt that I was lacking. However, I am grateful and happy to give a lot of praise through this work.

Lee Seung Gi went on and shared that he had received many compliments on his complex character.

In particular, the reaction that ‘It is different from existing psychopaths onscreen before.’ The script for ‘Mouse’ was so solid and intense, so I thought I might be buried in the story or atmosphere, but several people have also shown interest in the character as well.

Since his real personality is nothing like an actual psychopath, Lee Seung Gi revealed his fans were concerned about him taking on the role.

Basically, many people were concerned because the image of the psychopath we think of and the image of me, Lee Seung Gi is so contradictory.

Luckily, Jung Ba Reum was a very diverse character that exhibited both good and evil. Because Of Jung Ba Reum’s several sides, Lee Seung Gi stated how he felt his acting spectrum has expanded from it.

Doesn’t Jung Ba Reum himself have both aspects, both very good and very evil. I think that the public image of me actually helped me create the character. Instead of thinking in terms of good and evil, I want to play characters that are appealing and whom I can also relate to. I felt that playing Jung Ba Reum broadened my acting spectrum, and instead of worrying about playing good or evil roles, I want to keep playing diverse characters.

Lee Seung Gi shared that he felt the ending of the drama was written by the writer in the best way!

The author wrote the ending so well, and I think it was the best ending that Jung Ba Reum could choose and that the viewers could understand.

Not only did Lee Seung Gi get to expand his acting spectrum, but he also met several great actors. Lee Seung Gi explained that because he was surrounded by talented actors, he was able to do a great job as well.

I felt once again how much easier it is to get immersed in my role and to grow as an actor when I have good chemistry with good actors. Because of COVID-19, we couldn’t all finished filming together and have a big dinner together. We were separated and ended on different days. Instead, we promised to meet up once the situation has improved.

To conclude the interview, Lee Seung Gi shared the scene he found most memorable.

In the last episode, the scene where Jung Ba Reum and Go Moo Chi met in the interview room will remain in my mind for a long time. It was the first time in a while that I wasn’t even acting, I had become the character and felt what he felt. It was 100 percent sincere. It’s difficult even for a longtime actor to get into that state, so I was grateful to Lee Hee Joon for helping me experience that. I think that it was specifically because of him that I was able to cry like that.
